Mario Sousa June 12, 2020

Maranello, 24 May 2020 – French Director Claude Lelouch shot his short film, “Le Grand Rendez-vous”, in Principality of Monaco at dawn this morning, on the very date the Grand Prix was to take place.

The French director’s cameras accompanied the Ferrari SF90 Stradale as it completed an adrenaline-fuelled lap of the Formula 1 street circuit. At its wheel was Charles Leclerc who clocked speeds of up to 240 km/h en route to the mystery “big date” of the title.

‘Barnfind’ Ferrari F355 Recommissioned at H.R. Owen Ferrari

Mario Sousa February 24, 2020
  • The H.R. Owen Ferrari Service Centre has undertaken one of its most ambitious projects yet: the mechanical recommissioning of a ‘barnfind’ Ferrari F355

  • Following more than 12 years neglected in storage in Macau, the F355 required a recommissioning of its engine, gearbox, suspension and more

  • Finished in an extremely rare Verde Silverstone and fitted with carbon-fiber racing bucket seats

  • The H.R. Owen Ferrari Service Centre in West London is Europe’s largest Ferrari Technical Centre and carries full Ferrari Classiche status

London, 13th February 2020. H.R. Owen Ferrari has just completed one of its most challenging projects yet: the full mechanical recommissioning of a ‘barnfind’ Ferrari F355. Found by its current owner in Macau covered by a sheet and left standing for over 12 years, the H.R. Owen Ferrari team was tasked with getting it running in perfect order once more.

H.R. Owen Ferrari’s customer found the car while hunting for a Ferrari 512 TR. Having found a great example, he noticed the F355 hidden next to it and pulled off the sheet to reveal a rare Verde Silverstone finish. Additionally, this particular F355 comes fitted the sought-after gated manual gearbox and carbon-fiber racing bucket seats – another option not often ticked on the order sheet. Further research revealed this F355 was first registered in Macau in July 1995.

The H.R. Owen Ferrari London Service team was specifically recommended to the customer by a fellow Ferrari enthusiast, and the car was shipped to London for work to begin. Having covered each one of the 10,000km showing on its odometer before 2007, the F355 was now in need of some serious mechanical work. Rodents had chewed through key wiring components, lubricants had long since dried up, while natural corrosion and general wear-and-tear had played havoc with all the major mechanical functions.

Following a lengthy and meticulous analysis of the car’s condition, the H.R. Owen Ferrari London team began the process of recommissioning the car in late 2019.

Now back to fully perfect running condition, the F355’s engine was removed, disassembled, deep-cleaned and had a number of its key parts replaced, including faulty pumps. The gearbox had its clutch replaced and the flywheel was totally overhauled. Elsewhere, the fuel tank and fuel lines were drained, a new catalyst system was installed in the exhaust, two catalytic control units were replaced and fresh fuel was circulated around the system. With the addition of a new battery, a number of new fuses and a whole host of other mechanical tweaks, the F355 was finally fired up for the first time in well over a decade.

The work also included the replacement of the whole air-conditioning system, an entirely new set of wheels and tires, new brakes and brake discs all-round and the suspension received fresh shock absorbers on all four corners.

The next phase of the recommission will see the vehicle undergo bodywork restoration in the form of a full paint respray of the F355’s exceptionally rare color scheme. Following completion of the project, the owner will be submitting the car for Ferrari Classiche certification at H.R. Owen Ferrari.

Built by Ferrari between 1994 and 1999, the F355 is one model in the long and distinguished lineage of Ferrari’s mid-engined berlinettas. Powered by a 3.5L V8 engine with 375 hp, the F355 could sprint from 0-62 mph in 4.7 seconds and 0-100 mph in 10.8 seconds, with a top speed of 183 mph. During the late 1990s, the F355 was the most popular Ferrari to-date, with over 11,000 being sold.

Ken Choo, H.R. Owen CEO, said: “We’re delighted to be able to showcase the extraordinary level of training that our H.R. Owen Ferrari aftersales technicians go through with a project like this. The F355 was one of the most advanced sports cars of its era, and it’s no easy task to restore one to perfect working order after having spent 12 years parked. What the team at H.R. Owen Ferrari Aftersales have achieved here is spectacular, and we’re delighted to have been able to play a part in the recommissioning of this rare and important piece of Ferrari history.”

H.R. Owen Ferrari operates a showroom in South Kensington and – during 2019 – opened a new flagship showroom in Mayfair’s Berkeley Square. H.R. Owen Ferrari also offers the Classiche-approved Ferrari Service Centre in West London, where all work on this F355 was completed – it’s the largest Ferrari Technical Centre in Europe.

Ferrari Grand Tour, An Exhibition at the MEF in Modena

Mario Sousa February 20, 2020

Maranello, 20 February 2020 - An annual appointment, that of Enzo Ferrari’s birthday on 18 February, becomes yet again the occasion for a new exhibition at the Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena. “Ferrari Grand Tour, a journey through beauty and passion” celebrates the international vocation and boundless fame of a marque that has dominated the world scene with unparalleled styling of its cars from the very early days.

The main protagonists of this particular journey are some of Ferrari’s most elegant Grand Tourers; cars that not only won the hearts of high profile celebrity clients but are also linked to the world’s most fascinating cities.

The journey takes visitors through five multimedia arches representing five different cities: Paris, London, New York, Shanghai, and Abu Dhabi. Thanks to a mix of images and audio, the arches create an immersive visitor experience evoking Ferrari’s connection with each of the cities and their geographical region.   Each arch lies at the center of waves of energy which contextualize each of the individual cars.

The Paris arch opens the area devoted to Europe. The “Ville Lumière” and its International Motor Show have provided the backdrop for many pivotal moments in the marque’s production history. In 1949, for instance, they hosted the debut of the 166 Inter Touring, a coupé clad in magnificently spare lines that made a huge impact on the marque and can be seen in the exhibition. Many other memorable unveilings followed,  not least that of the 1954 Ferrari 375 MM, a one-off commissioned from Pinin Farina by Roberto Rossellini as a gift for his wife Ingrid Bergman.

With their heady mix of avant-garde and tradition which continue to flourish in motorsport temples of the likes of Goodwood, the United Kingdom has always rewarded Ferrari’s cars with starring roles. In the exhibition we find, for example, the Ferrari 330 GT 2+2, a coupé powered by a front-mounted V12 and immortalized in front of Westminster in 1964, when Colonel Ronny Hoare’s Maranello Concessionaires presented it to its clients.

The United States has an enduring relationship with Ferrari too, strengthened through friendships with musical artists such as  Miles Davis and Hollywood stars such as Jane Mansfield. A major contribution also came from high profile events, including the 2016 30 Million Cars Rally which included the 1959 250 GT Berlinetta SWB, also featured in the exhibition. Venerated by many collectors as the ultimate GT, the car is famous for its exceptionally pure lines and an incredible tally of race victories.

Shanghai is an extraordinary city that acts as a melting pot for the Far East’s ancient aesthetic matched with that of the West. This is highlighted to stunning effect in the exhibition through the image of a 2006 599 GTB Fiorano with bodywork decorated by the artist Lu Hao in the style of Song Dynasty porcelain. Alongside this artistic masterpiece is the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti which, in 2005, just a year after its launch, proved its matchless comfort and performance on a 15,000-mile tour of China. Also featured is a photograph of the 2018 Ferrari Portofino in the Shibuya quarter in Tokyo, another vibrant touchstone for the Ferrarista community in the Far East.

Abu Dhabi is one of the undisputed Middle Eastern capitals of luxury and passion for the Prancing Horse as epitomized by Ferrari World, the marque’s dedicated theme park. In fact, the all-wheel-drive Ferrari FF, which hailed a revolution in both styling and performance was unveiled in the park in 2011, shortly after its successful debut at the Geneva International Motor Show. The arch also references the International Cavalcade that last year celebrated the 25th anniversary of Ferrari’s arrival in the United Arab Emirates with a parade of over 100 cars.

Last but very far from least, the Grand Tour arrives in Italy with the Ferrari Roma, the latest masterpiece from the Maranello Style Centre which developed this glorious contemporary take on the sophisticated chic of the Dolce Vita of the 1950s and 60s. A lifestyle and aesthetic choice that is not confined to Italy but which, as the exhibition reveals, Ferrari interprets all over the world.

Ferrari Dealers welcomed around 400 attendees from local schools to learn about Ferrari Apprenticeships during National Apprenticeship Week 2020

London, Monday 10 February 2020 - Ferrari is delighted to announce that the Official Ferrari Dealer Network welcomed around 400 attendees to an Open Day at their Aftersales facilities to showcase Apprenticeship opportunities with the Prancing Horse. Each Ferrari Dealer hosted students from selected local schools in their area to visit the service centers and learn about Ferrari technology and potential job opportunities in their local dealership.

After receiving an overview of the Ferrari North Europe Apprenticeship Scheme, students were taken on a tour of the facilities, where they were able to interact with recent and current apprentices, as well as Service Technicians and Aftersales Managers to ask questions and really get an idea of what it means to work as an apprentice on the Ferrari scheme.

The Ferrari North Europe Apprentice program is ideal for those who have achieved at least 5 GCSEs and are interested in working at an Official Ferrari Dealer in one of the following Apprenticeship roles:

• Service Technician – 3-year apprenticeship

• Service Advisor – 2-year apprenticeship

• Parts Advisor – 2-year apprenticeship

Each of these roles includes full-time employment at an official Ferrari dealership, with on-the-job training carried out under the watchful eye of Ferrari Master Technicians. Ferrari North Europe also provides additional classroom, theory and practical training at the company’s Training Centre in Berkshire.

Subject to the satisfactory completion of the training program, Apprentices are offered full-time roles with their local Ferrari dealership. In fact, the Ferrari North Europe Apprenticeship program has become the de facto route into the brand, with many employees starting out as an Apprentice subsequently moving into other roles in the business, such as Workshop Manager, Service Manager, or even Sales Executive.
