Small & Big Brands dealing with today’s Cancel Culture

Cancel Culture,  when you first hear this term you think that it is a talking point made up by “Conservative” “Right Leaning” pundits.  In reality “Cancel Culture” is a weapon commonly used by far-left pundits on this digital battlefield.  I will be writing about one of many examples of how “Cancel Culture has been weaponized to silences someone's point of view and or belief.

Here is one example  Linktree “a freemium social media reference landing page developed by Alex Zaccaria, Anthony Zaccaria, and Nick Humphreys, headquartered in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia. Founded in 2016.  As of March 2021, the number of users has reached nearly 16 million, with an increase of 300% over the previous year.  Like most brands/content creators the creation of a service like Linktree is/was a godsend.  Just ask any brands/content creators why they need multiple outlets to share their content.  i.e. Think “Don’t leave all your eggs in one basket”.  I’ll expand on this a little later.

One day I get word that my link to my Linktree account was displaying this message to anyone that click on that link wherever I was promoting it on most of my social media platforms be it be YouTube, Twitter, Instagram to just name a few.

“This is what viewer would see if they clicked on my Linktree link”

After reading Linktree’s FAQ page the closes reasoning that I could come up with was they used  " inappropriate pornographic, violent, fraudulent, or spammy" as for their reasoning to DeActivate my account.  Here is a listing of the links that I had listed you can see them listed below:

Listing of links mentioned on Linktree account.

Who knows Why? I’ve asked. When dealing with Linktree support.  After my initial request on Feb 20th,  I would receive the following messages four days later.

They took Four days to get back to me not to mention the damages they created for my branding.  Just imagine as in if you’re a first-time visitor to my account page and you read that first image post.  How much of that statement could have turned you off as a potential subscriber or donor?  How about this false slight has damaged my brand’s image moving forward?

IMHO, I believe I was targeted by a mass false flagging campaign but I will never be certain since Linktree will not provide the total number of reported complaints on my account.  It was not like I have a massive following: 2.4K subscribers on YouTube, 431 on Twitter, and 632 on Instagram.  One of the flaws in all this mess.  Linktree did not once bother to contact me to state that my account violated their Community Standards.  Even YouTube gives you the common courtesy warnings.

I have a friend/fellow content creator at the beginning of 2021 who found massive growth on his youtube channel going from 14.5K followers to 165K followers in a matter of three weeks.  With that success came the Haters or Trolls of the Cancel Culture mob.  For whatever reason in their eyes deemed my friend what they call a “PAYtriot” and made it their smug self-rightness duty to Cancel my friend.

Here is one example of them bragging among themselves on one of their chat channels.

This is one tactic of the Cancel Culture Mob  Reporting or Flagging videos or other forms of content to the platforms that they are shared on.  In this case, all those reports internally within YouTube pointed a false target onto my friend.  This then leads my friend to receive IMO False YouTube Community guideline strikes for past, present, and future videos.  First, you receive a Warning then First, strike

This strike means you will not be allowed to do the following for 1 week:

  • Upload videos, live streams, or stories

  • Create custom thumbnails or Community posts

  • Create, edit, or add collaborators to playlists

  • Add or remove playlists from the watch page using the “Save” button

  • Show a trailer during your Premieres

  • Send viewers from a live stream to a Premiere or send viewers from a Premiere to a live stream

Full privileges will be restored automatically after the 1-week period, but your strike will remain on your channel for 90 days.

Second Strike

If you get a second strike within the same 90-day period as your first strike, you will not be allowed to post content for 2 weeks. If there are no further issues, full privileges will be restored automatically after the 2 weeks. Each strike will not expire until 90 days from the time it was issued.

Third Strike

Three strikes in the same 90-day period will result in your channel being permanently removed from YouTube. Again, each strike will not expire until 90 days from the time it was issued.

If your Channel on YouTube gets terminated after Three Strikes Say Bye-Bye to ever uploading videos or leaving a comment or Like on someone else video on YouTube.  Think of it as a modern-day Digital Assination or Erasor off the world wide web.

Sure you can appeal a strike, but from what I’ve personally seen on my friend's account is YouTube is a differently Left-leaning bias platform, for now, Pro Democratic party pundits.

Example 1: Video in front of the White House to see if the Exterior Lights shut off at 11 PM Video Removed for Harassment, Threats, and Cyberbullying.

Example 2: Interviewing a George Washington Reenactor at Mt Rushmore  Video Removed for Harassment, Threats, and Cyberbullying.

Example 3: A video showing President Biden’s motorcade leaving the capital building Video Removed for Harassment, Threats, and Cyberbullying. Later to be overturned during the appeals process.

And last Example 4: An interview with Jackson Lahmeyera candidate for U.S. Senate of Oklahoma Video Removed for Harassment, Threats, and Cyberbullying. Appealed and only reinstated after the fact that YouTube by taking down that video could be argued to be Election interference or Tampering.

One other tactic that the Cancel Culture Mob uses is to ensure that you can not accept any form of Donations or use of any financial services by filing false claims to get you Canceled.  To date, PayPal /Venmo has shut down my friends' accounts that he’s had open for over fifteen years.   Another example Read: Chase Bank Shuts Down Proud Boys Leader’s Personal Bank Account

This is how the Cancel Culture Mob works to rid themselves of others with whom they can not debate issues fairly.  It is easier for them to remove you from platforms where your messages and thoughts can be expressed and heard.

So when I earlier talked about not leaving all of your eggs in one basket this is what I was referring to Having backup platforms in the event if one is taken down you have another and it wouldn’t hurt to start collecting e-mail addresses from your subscriber/follower base to stay in tough if things hit the fan.
