  • Both limited editions were created to celebrate Aston Martin’s historic 1-2 finish at the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans in the DBR1

  • The H.R. Owen Group operates Aston Martin showrooms in both Reading and Cheltenham; one part of an operation that includes ten luxury car brands

11th February 2020. Aston Martin Cheltenham, operated by the H.R. Owen Group, has welcomed two of the rarest modern-day Aston Martin models to its showroom. The limited-edition DBS 59 and Vantage 59, both owned by a single Aston Martin Cheltenham customer, were created to celebrate Aston Martin’s historic 1-2 finish at the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans in the DBR1.

With both ’59 Edition’ cars produced in exceptionally small numbers globally, the opportunity to gather both cars in one place doesn’t come along very often. But so passionate about the Aston Martin story is the owner that he wanted to reunite both cars at Aston Martin Cheltenham, offering staff and visitors a once-in-a-lifetime glimpse at these historically inspired models.

‘DBS 59’ is a limited run of 24 special edition DBS Superleggera’s, finished in Aston Martin Racing Green, following a careful examination of the original DBR1’s own paintwork. Bronze details such as the ‘Superleggera’ bonnet badging, bespoke front grille, brake calipers and 21” forged Y spoke satin duotone wheels nod to the bronze switches and dials on the Le Mans winner.

The Q by Aston Martin bespoke division also analyzed the seat material used on the DBR1 to help recreate the same weave in the DBS 59’s seats. Bronze details continue throughout, including the shift paddles and a ’59 Edition’ logo embroidered onto the seatback. The specially designed headlining now includes a period image from the 1959 24 Hours of Le Mans race of Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby piloting the DBR1 to victory.

The Vantage 59, meanwhile, is one of a limited run of the last 59 Aston Martin Vantage AMR models built. Equipped with a number of driver-focused tweaks as standard, the AMR is fitted with an advanced seven-speed manual gearbox and carbon-ceramic brakes. The Vantage 59 takes things further still, with a Stirling Green and Lime exterior paint scheme and Dark Knight leather and Alcantara interior, finished with a signature AMR lime stripe and stitch

Simon Lane, Director Special Projects – Q and VIP Sales, said: “Aston Martin’s rich history gives us the material to create exciting projects like DBS 59 and Vantage 59 – both created to commemorate our historic 1-2 win in 1959 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the historic DBR1. We have a wonderful team at Q by Aston Martin who have the creativity and the engineering prowess to create outstanding limited edition design projects that are imbued with significance and meaning. It is always a delight when customers and dealerships support these initiatives – they take many hours of hard work, on top of the hours of handcraftsmanship that go into our core sportscar range.”

Located in the heart of the Cotswolds, Aston Martin Cheltenham offers new and pre-owned sales of the Aston Martin range, as well as extensive repair and maintenance facilities staffed by factory-trained technicians. The dealership is located one mile from junction 10 of the M5 with easy access to the M4 and M40, offering a variety of interesting test drive routes to choose from.

The H.R. Owen Group operates Aston Martin retailers in both Cheltenham and Reading, but also represents a number of the world’s most sought-after premium car brands; Bugatti, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, BAC, Rimac and Puritalia.
